Foto: Peder Alme v\/ Ornamentfabrikken 2024<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Artikkelen sier ikke noe mer om Kiellands \u00abinnblikk i ekte kalkstukk\u00bb, s\u00e5 jeg m\u00e5tte grave dypere for \u00e5 finne kilden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grunnlagsmaterialet etter artikler om arkitekter til Norsk Kunstnerleksikon ligger lagret hos Riksantikvaren, s\u00e5 turen gikk til Oslo, og til Riksantikvarens arkiver og samlinger<sup data-fn=\"4b89f963-181d-47f8-b7b3-fa461107900c\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#4b89f963-181d-47f8-b7b3-fa461107900c\" id=\"4b89f963-181d-47f8-b7b3-fa461107900c-link\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I bakgrunns- mappen etter artikkelen om Kielland er det kopier av s\u00f8knadsbrev til \u00abDet kongelige norske Kirke- og undervisnings Departement, Christiania\u00bb med \u00abAns\u00f8gning om Statens stipendium\u00bb til reiser og studier i utlandet. Det er tre ulike s\u00f8knader, fra \u00e5rene 1893, 1894 og 1896. I s\u00f8knadsbrevet datert 12. mars 1894 argumenterer Kielland om st\u00f8tte til arbeids-\/ og studieopphold i Berlin p\u00e5 f\u00f8lgende m\u00e5te:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&laquo;<em>Det er min plan, hvis jeg erholder stipendiet at arbeide en tid paa Arkitekturbilledhugger Gieseckes Atelier og treskj\u00e6rerskole her. I l\u00f8bet af de aar hvori jeg har indehavt min nuverende stilling, har jeg selvf\u04e7lgelig tilegnet mig en ret stor \u04e7velse i og skj\u04e7n paa ornamental formbehandling, men skal man senere kunne arbeide videre paa egenhaand er det yderst n\u04e7dvendig at kunne beherske ogsaa tekniken og materialet. Frem for alt vilde jeg l\u00e6gge mig efter den saakaldte \u00e6gte \u201eKalkstuck\u201d, : ornamenter frit modeleret i kalk uden afst\u04e7bning. Foto: Peder Alme v\/ Norsk H\u00e5ndverksinstitutt 2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I 1894 hadde Kielland allerede arbeidet et par \u00e5r for arkitekt Griesebach og &nbsp;\u00abArkitekturbilledhugger\u00bb Giesecke, og h\u00e5ndverket med \u201d<em>\u00e6gte \u201eKalkstuck\u201d<\/em> var tydeligvis s\u00e5 interessant for den unge arkitekten, at han s\u00e5 behovet for \u00e5 s\u00f8ke om stipend for \u00e5 l\u00e6re mer om teknikken. Ingen av s\u00f8knadene ble innvilget, men det hindret ikke arkitekt Kielland \u00e5 anvende frih\u00e5ndsmodellerte ornamenter p\u00e5 mange av sine senere bygg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I Bergen tegnet Kielland, blant flere: som nevnt, <em>Det hvite hus<\/em>\/ Foreningsgaten 1 (1902), Bergen Handelsgymnasium\/ Kalfarveien 2 (1903), murvillaen Seiersbjerget 6 (1906), og ikke minst, Bergen stasjon (1909- 13)<sup data-fn=\"ecae0881-8be9-4656-8ac4-ac48b337f8c4\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#ecae0881-8be9-4656-8ac4-ac48b337f8c4\" id=\"ecae0881-8be9-4656-8ac4-ac48b337f8c4-link\">2<\/a><\/sup>. Foto: Nasjonalbibliotekets bildesamling Bergen, Hordaland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Det er godt mulig at den unge stukkat\u00f8ren Mons Hartvedt<sup data-fn=\"8a21dbd4-0c00-4713-b55e-15e63a0151d7\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#8a21dbd4-0c00-4713-b55e-15e63a0151d7\" id=\"8a21dbd4-0c00-4713-b55e-15e63a0151d7-link\">3<\/a><\/sup> hadde sitt f\u00f8rste m\u00f8te med frih\u00e5ndmodellering av fasadeornamenter i \u201d<em>\u00e6gte \u201eKalkstuck\u201d<\/em> under oppf\u00f8ringen av noen av bygningene som Kielland tegnet i Bergen tidlig p\u00e5 1900- tallet. Noen er revet, men de fleste st\u00e5r i dag. En tiltro som i alle fall de hektiske bygge\u00e5rene i \u00c5lesund kan ha bidratt til. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I sin rosende omtale av \u201d<em>\u00e6gte \u201eKalkstuck\u201d <\/em>avslutter Kielland i 1894 med at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&laquo;<em>Efter mit ringe skj\u04e7n maa den \u00e6gte \u201eKalkstuck\u201d egne sig fortrinlig for de temmelig pengeknappe norske bygg og forhold, is\u00e6r da de forekommende stenarter er saa vandskelige at bearbeide.<\/em>&laquo;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Dette rimer videre med kunsthistoriker Helga Stave Tvinnereim sin vurdering av Kiellands arbeider i \u00c5lesund, i sin avhandling <em>Arkitektur i \u00c5lesund 1904- 1907<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&laquo;<em>Ytterveggene p\u00e5 alle husa har pussa mur, ark.
